Ikat is a dyeing technique used to pattern textiles that employs a resist dyeing process on the fibres, prior to dyeing and weaving. Ikat is most characteristic of Indonesia, though ikats have also been woven in India and central Asia. Ikats are produced in a few places including Japan, Bali, and the villages of Puttapaka and Bhoodan Pochampally in India. Ikat fabrics are the oldest known patterned textiles in the world. The word 'Ikat' comes from a word in Malay that means “to bind or wind around”. Thousands of individual threads are tie-dyed in intricate patterns, then untied and woven into fabric.

Care :

Hand wash (First time, soak in salt water for 5 minutes and rinse with a mild detergent. Very less colour fades off the cloth for the first wash. This is due to the excess dye that leaves the handloom cloth. No colour fades after proper first wash).
